Materials Center Leoben Forschung GmbH (MCL) is pleased to announce that Dr. Natalia Bedoya-Martinez, an outstanding scientist and expert in the field of materials development and software solutions for scientific applications, has taken over the position of Co-Chair of the Focus Group Software, i.e. a key position in the renowned European Materials Modelling Council (EMMC).
The EMMC is a non-profit organization founded in 2019 that sees the integration of material modelling and digitalization as crucial for more agile and sustainable product development in Europe.
This committee plays a key role in the strategic direction of materials development in Europe and promotes scientific exchange and forward-looking innovations in the field of new materials.
Dr. Bedoya-Martinez brings to the EMMC her many years of experience and expertise in the fields of scientific software, particularly in physical applications, as well as her more recent engagement with machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data management. In her role at MCL, she is responsible for creating user-friendly and powerful software solutions from the codes that scientists develop to solve specific problems. This software enables researchers to carry out complex material simulations more efficiently and make new findings usable more quickly.
Dr. Bedoya-Martinez sees her new role at the EMMC as an important opportunity to play an active role in shaping European materials research. She is particularly fascinated by the challenge of translating scientific developments into practical software solutions and thereby significantly accelerating the progress of research.
At the same time, another MCL employee, Dr. Jürgen Spitaler, was commissioned by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology to carry out a comprehensive study. The study examined the benefits and potential of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in materials research. The aim of the study was to identify new ways in which AI-supported methods can accelerate and optimize the development of new sustainable material solutions.
The management of Materials Center Leoben Forschung GmbH was proud of this important recognition and the commissioned study. The collaboration between the two experts will provide decisive impetus for the future of materials research.
Impact and effects
The EMMC has the task of identifying research trends and making recommendations for materials development. The appointment of Dr. Bedoya Martinez strengthens the committee's scientific expertise and commitment to excellent research “Made in Europe”.
With this appointment and the new study contract, MCL not only contributes to the international visibility of its researchers, but also underlines its role as one of the leading institutions in European materials research.
